It's absolutely no surprise that now Gates is calling for a "slowdown" of the reduction in troops promised after the "surge".

I say no surprise because anyone who has watched this administration knows that it was inevitable. But in addition, it's not difficult to see that when you expand your occupation footprint, it's gets increasingly more difficult to back away. That will be the problem that the next President has to overcome .... a ego momentum of enormous proportions.
