I've never seen Bowling for Columbine but I have a gun and won't give it up for any reason. After working for a police department for 15 years, I've seen what can happen to a woman if a "bad man" gets hold of her. During the periods when I lived alone I have, on several occasions, checked the house with it in my hand.
First line of defense, however, is noisy dogs. If a "bad man" keeps on coming through all of that, I figure I'm helping the gene pool by taking him out.
